Our Services

Our diversity of services, dedication to quality workmanship and outstanding customer service allows us to remain competitive as we strive to be the top water feature contractor in the Metro Detroit area. Below are just a few of the many services we offer at Pondering Waters. Please call, or use the contact us page if you have any questions.

Design & Installation

All of our pond and pondless waterfalls are installed by highly trained installers: each installer goes back for training every spring to keep up with quality and new developed techniques. Our water gardens are built with only the best contractor equipment there is for our customers and not DIY Big Box store equipment. We treat every pond and pondless installation like we were installing a pond or pondless water feature in our own back yard.

Spring Clean-outs

Each spring we contact our customers for Spring Clean-Outs. When we get to the job site we begin to drain the pond, fill the fish storing tank or tanks and remove any fish. We store the fish in a live well to be protected during cleaning. Once the pond is empty, we power wash the pond and pump out the dirty water. We do not power wash all the algae off because some algae on rocks will prove beneficial in developing your pond's ecosystem. When the pond is cleaned, we clean all the filter pads, the skimmer box and the biofalls, and then we connect the pumps or fountains. Next we begin to filling the pond and add chlorine-chloramine remover. The last step is to properly acclimate the fish to get them ready to put back in We do this by using the old pond water from the live well and putting a few inches of water in a fish display container and let the container with the fish float in your pond. After fifteen minutes we periodically begin adding small amounts of new pond water to the container to get the temperature of the water in the container the same as the water in the pond. This will be less stressful to the fish. Before we leave we turn on the hose on a trickle and let the pond fill while you are at work we do this because it can become costly to our home owners for us to stay and sit around and wait for the pond to fill. The last and most important step we do is before we leave we spray down all our equipment with bleach and rinse very well and we do this just incase the pond we were at had a parasite or any other diseases are not transferred to the next job we are going to. Remember you don’t always need to do a spring clean-out every year it just depends on how well the pond was maintained in the fall and winter months.

Pond Closing

For winter, we take out all pumps and fountains from the pond, rinse them off and put them in a bucket of fresh water to keep the seals from drying out and cracking. The homeowner puts these items in their basement. Next we cut down all hardy water lilies 2-3' above the base of the plant and cut down all hardy bog or marginal plants 2-3' above the water level. Tropical plants can be brought inside for winter or treated as an annual and replaced each season. Then we try to remove as much of all the dead debris as we can such as plants or leave’s so that they will not break down and add harmful toxins to the water. When that is done, we rinse all the filter systems and store them in the homeowners shed or garage. The last steps we do is to add an air bubbler and pond heater to the pond to insure a hole is kept open in the ice for gasses to escape and oxygen levels stay stabilized in the pond, note: every heater and bubbler is matched to the size of the pond to small of a heater or bubbler will not do the job if we have a hard winter. Next we install the floating net riser built by Pondering Waters and install the leaf net which should be taken down just before the first snow fall.

Monthly Maintenance Schedules

We offer all of our customer’s pond maintenance packages which they can choose from once a month to every week if they choose or we can custom design a package that suites there needs. Our basic plan covers a once a month visit and the service includes a check of all equipment such as pumps, auto fills, skimmers and filters. We clean the filter and debris net from the skimmer fix any rocks that may have settled out of place. Next we trim all aquatic plants and apply the beneficial bacteria to the pond check salt levels and add if needed. Last we check the lighting system and replace bulbs if needed (light bulbs are an added cost per bulb)

Vacation Check-ups

Peace of mind is a phone call away when you go on vacation. A person from our staff will go to your pond location once or twice a week, depending on the length of the vacation, and simply check the pond to make sure everything is running correctly and fix any issues that may come up.
